Please prepare a brief (two minutes or less) comedic Shakespeare monologue.

SYNOPSIS: Conceived by director Rebecca Martinez and composer Julián Mesri, this new adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of separation and joyous reunion rigorously embraces music from all over Latin America. With songs in English and Spanish, this new adaptation is an exciting new take on the age-old tale of two sets of twins separated by stormy seas as they overcome a baffling case of mistaken identity—and the mayhem and hilarious confusion that follows.

For over 10 years, the Public Theater’s Mobile Unit has been breaking down economic and geographic barriers to the arts by meeting our communities where they are, staging free professional theater productions in local neighborhood venues. It is rooted in the founding impulse of The Public Theater that theater is an essential cultural force.

This Spring, the Mobile Tour will be OUTDOORS, in partnership with the Parks Department and other community venues throughout the five boroughs. Exact dates/venues are still TBC. The Mobile Tour will be followed by a three week engagement at the Public Theater. Actors travel to tour venues by company van, where the company will perform the 90-minute production with minimal set and prop elements. Once the tour is completed, there is a brief tech period before performances at the Public Theater.

SEEKING

:

DROMIO OF SYRACUSE/EPHESUS: 30’s-early 40s. A Latine man. Bilingual Spanish/English speaker. DROMIO OF SYRACUSE: After being separated as a child from his mother and twin brother, he has set out, alongside his boss, in search of his lost family. Quick witted, clever, loyal. A hard worker who strives to do well by his employer, and who bristles quickly when he’s accused of something he did not do. This role will double with DROMIO OF EPHESUS: Witty, wily, and overworked. Anxious to do a good job, and the stakes are high, since his employers will beat him if he doesn’t. Increasingly confused and annoyed by his boss’s inexplicable and erratic behavior. A strong singer, possessing great verbal/physical comedic skills.
