WILEY AND THE HAIRY MAN (world premiere) By Suzan Zeder, Music by Harry Pickens
Dog: Male or Female 20s-30s to play Wiley's hound dog. Dog doesn't talk, but is a very physical role. Strong mover required.

Mammy: Female 30s - 50s. Strong singer/actor to play adult mother. Mammy is a conjure woman in the swamps of south Alabama. She is strong willed, confident, relies heavily on the use of magic and conjuring to deal with daily life. Frustrated with her son Wiley's laziness and disregard for magic. Helps Wiley to learn to rely on himself to solve his problems.

Hairy Man: Male 20s-50s. Strong actor/ bass singer. The Hairy Man is the "boogey man" of the Tombigbee Swamp. He believes himself to be the best conjure

Grace Bradley: Female actor 20s-40s. Strong actor. The typical “sitcom” mother.

Bob Bradley: Male 20s-50s. A typical “sitcom” style dad with a laid back sense of humor.

Helen Armstrong: Female 30s+. Strong-willed, Domineering matriarch of the church. Bossy, opiniated.

Edna McCarthy: Female 30s+. Snooty and stuck up church lady. Wants to be like Mrs. Armstrong.



JACKIE AND ME
Jackie Robinson: African American male 20s-30s. Athletic.

Rachel Robinson and others: African American female 20s-30s. Wife of Jackie Robison. She is a strong woman, supportive, caring and loyal.

Joey Stoshack: White Male 20s. Strong actor to play a 10 year old. Joey Stoshack is hot-tempered and a huge baseball fan.

Mrs. Stoshack and others: Female 20s-50s. Strong and versatile character actor Mrs.
Stoshack is motherly and protective.

Mr. Stoshack/Dixie Walker and others: Male 30s-50s. Strong and versatile character actor. Mr. Stoshack is dismissive of Joey’s anger issues to the frustration of Mrs. Stoshack. He is struggling financially and asks Joey to bring back valuable baseball cards from the past. Dixie Walker is the right fielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Branch Rickey/Babe Ruth/Eddie Stanky and others: Male 30s-50s. Strong and versatile character actor. Branch Rickey is the manager who broke baseballs color barrier by signing Jackie Robinson to play. Babe Ruth is the legendary baseball player.He is elderly and well past his playing days. Eddie Stanky was the 2nd baseman for the Dodgers.

Pee Wee Reese/Leo Durocher and others: Male 20s-50s. Strong and versatile character actor. Pee Wee Reese was the shortstop for the Dodgers. He was a strong supporter of Jackie Robinson. He was modest with no particular prejudices. Leo Durocher was the manager of the Dodgers.
Bobby Fuller/Ant/Ben Chapman and others
Males 20s+. Strong and versatile character actor. Bobby Fuller is a little league pitcher for an opposing team. He is a loud mouth bully who delights in insulting Joey. Ant is a batboy for the Dodgers. He is a prejudiced and mental teenager. Ben Chapman was the manager of the Phillies.



CHARLOTTE'SWEB
Wilbur: Male 20s-30s. Wilbur is the Fern’s piglet. Wilbur has a good, child-like heart, but is unable to make decisions for himself and is often unaware of the events around him that do not involve him directly.

Arable/Templeton/Lurvy: Male 20s+. Strong character actor. Arable is Fern’s father Strong and practical. Templeton is a rat. Crafty and selfish. Lurvy is the hired man. He is sensitive and clumsy

Homer/Sheep: Male 30s+. Strong character actor. Homer Zuckerman is a typical farmer. Sheep is old and forthright.

Charlotte: Female 20s+. Strong Actor. Charlotte is a spider. She is practical, skilled and unsentimental. She is motherly to Wilbur and clever and loyal to her friends.
Goose
Female 20s+. Strong character actor This stuttering goose likes giving instructions and is a bit of a trouble maker. She is an attentive mother however and is keen to protect her eggs.

Narrator/Gander/Uncle: Male 20s+. Strong character actor. Gander stutters. He is brave and strong and protective. Uncle is the large spring pig that lives next to Wilbur at the Fair. He is fat loud and obnoxious.
