BREAKDOWN
NOTE: This musical adaption of the classic 1964 animated film is performed in the style of Lion King with some actors wearing head dresses to emulate the character. Some operating puppets, some life size, to tell the story. It remains true to the film version in dialogue and song. All sets and costumes are duplicated from the film. As we strive to remain true to all of the voices and characters they we come to know and love, it is recommended that you view the film to find the mannerisms and voices of the characters you are auditioning for. Familiarize yourself with the holiday musical selections for musical choices. This is truly an ensemble driven show. All characters must sing and with the exception of Sam and Bumble, have basic dance abilities. Elves are dancer /singers who are robotic in movement and the Deer are agile and stylized in their movement. It is important to commit to the characters while making vocal and physical choices to bring these characters to life.
SEEKING: (ENSEMBLE – all internal Principal covers come from this group)
MRS. CLAUS: Feisty, matter of fact, inherently warm. Will also be a Snowkin / Puppet operator. A strong Belter.
ELVES: (3 males / 3 females no taller than 5’6”) Dancer / singers with robotic physical mannerisms and characterized vocal quality. Stylized character and tap dance. Most all Elves will double as Snowkins / Reindeer, and puppeteers during performance.
SNOWKINS: (males or females – 4 total) These singers function as a Greek chorus aiding Sam in telling the story. They move scenery and bringing the puppets to life thru expressive physical movement and voice. KNEE FLOOR WORK IS REQUIRED.
FIREBALL: a young buck- Featured member of the chorus; young, sparky, boyish- will also be an Elf / Snowkin.
COACH COMET: reindeer games coach / Claris’s father. Physically agile; featured member of Santa’s team; leads the reindeer games with coach-like quality. Will be a Snowkin / puppeteer. Voice should reflect energy and tone of animated film character.
BUMBLE: the abominable snow monster- the bumble is actually a series of three-dimensional puppet/set pieces, requiring strength to operate and maneuver. Backpack with towering head and limited visibility. Will also be a Snowkin as needed.
KING MOONRACER: King of the island of misfit toys- King Moonracer is conceived as a large stage puppet; his personality must come through his voice, which projects a strong, decisive personality; stern but warm reflecting voice of animated film Character. Usually an Elf or Snowkin.
THE MISFIT TOYS: Listed Below. Puppets with performer- puppeteers who voice these toys. From the Snowkin / Elf ensemble and Mrs. Clause. ALL PUPPETS REQUIRE KNEE / FLOOR WORK!
