Character Descriptions:
GLENN MILLER
Leading Role. Caucasian Male. 35-40. One of the most iconic musical figures of the swing era in the 1930’s and 40’s, Glenn Miller was an American big band leader who inspired the WWII generation with his music. Widely regarded as the most popular bandleader of his time, he entertained thousands of US and European troops with such hits as In The Mood, Moonlight Serenade, American Patrol, String Of Pearls, and Pennsylvania 6-5000 before his tragic death in 1944.
Actor must be 6 feet tall or over and play the trombone to a good standard. Must be a versatile actor with strong musical sensibilities, and should possess the dominant stage presence and stature required to carry a leading West End Role. A plain look is preferable.
THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS
Supporting Roles. African-American males. Considered by many to be the greatest tap dancers of their time, Fayard and Harold Nicholas were a famous African American team of dancing brothers. Their unique style and gymnastic abilities meant great success on stage, film, and television, and their act was a master class in slick syncopated dance, which stopped the show every time they performed.
Performers must be tap dancers with outstanding ability. Both roles require excellent stamina, agility and gymnastic skills. The Nicholas Brothers are featured heavily in this production, and will be expected to offer a double act that is as charismatic and spellbinding performance as the original. A good singing voice is required, and the ability to play a musical instrument is a plus.
