Choreographer: TBD
Rehearsal Dates: June 4 - June 16, 2024
Tech Dates: June 18-19, 2024
Performance Dates: June 20-29, 2024

SEEKING:

Joe - Male identifying, ages from teens to 20s, tenor. The narrator and main character. He is sweet and driven, with a love for the music of Burt Bacharach. A small town boy with big dreams. He is endearing with a great voice.

Jerry - Male identifying, ages from teens to 20s, tenor with falsetto to B. Jerry’s best friend and right-hand man. He loves sports and is always willing to give advice about dating, although he has little success himself. Can be a bit much at times, but still a good guy and a good friend.

George/Father DeJoseph - Male identifying, 40s-50s, baritone. George is Joe’s widowed father. A loving dad who doesn’t really understand his son, but tries to be supportive. Father DeJoseph is the leader of a choir that brings Joe and Lacey together, he’s an authority figure, but has a fun side.

Lacey - Female identifying, ages from teens to 20s, mezzo/belter. Lacey is a sweet, girl next door type. She knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to go and get it.

Sally - Female identifying, ages from teens to 20s, mezzo/belter. Lacey’s best friend and the object of Jerry’s affection. She’s a little more jaded than Lacey and plays hard to get with Jerry until he wins her over.

CHESS: IN CONCERT

Music by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaes
Lyrics by Tim Rice, Based on an idea by Tim Rice
Director: Michael Philip O'Brien
Musical Director: Dan Kazemi
Rehearsal Dates: July 1-7, 2024
Tech Dates: July 8-9, 2024
Performance Dates: July 11-20, 2024

SEEKING:

Freddie – Male identifying; late 20s to mid 30s; rock tenor up to C. Freddie is an American chess champion (loosely based on real-life chess champion, Bobby Fisher). A genius, but a hothead who is hounded by the press.

Anatoly – Male identifying; mid 20s to 40s; baritone with tenor notes to G#. Freddie’s rival, a Russian chess champion. He seems at first to be in lockstep with his handlers, but has some surprises up his sleeve. More grounded and empathetic than Freddie.

Florence – Female identifying; 20s to 30s; mix/belt up to E. Florence was born in Hungary and raised in America since fleeing in 1956 with her father. She is Freddie’s chess “second” and an incredible chess mind herself. Florence is strong, smart and complicated.

Molokov – Male identifying; late 30s to 50s; bass down to a F#. Molokov is the head of the Russian delegation. He is Anatoly’s “second” and a key part of the political machine. He is intellectually
formidable and he knows how to play the political game.

Svetlana – Female identifying; 20s - 30s; mix/belt. Svetlana is Anatoly’s wife. She has been living in the Soviet Union without Anatoly as he is off playing chess and has a quiet strength that contrasts Florence.

Arbiter – could be 20s to 50s; high rock baritone belt up to A. He is a charismatic, authoritative figure in the game of chess, as well as the narrator for much of the show.

Walter – Male identifying; 30s-50s; bass-baritone down to G#;. Walter is the head of the American delegation. He is all about politics and press coverage.

including suicide and depression.
