Count Carl (Tanzler) Von Cosel (40s-Early 50s) German- born eccentric, elegant, brilliant, imperially bearded sympathetic Renaissance man. Speaks perfect English with barely perceptible, undefinable accent. Spans the extremes of over-the-top nuttiness and total warmth and sincerity. For the past several decades, he's been searching for his soulmate - a girl he saw in his dreams when he was 12. Vocal range: Baritone Low G to Gb

Elena Milagro Hoyos (early 20s) Beautiful, sweet, trusting and unsophisticated girl of Von Cosel's dreams. She has recently become sick with tuberculosis. Vocal range: Lyric Soprano E to E, also must belt mix to C#

Nana Hoyos Medina (late 20s-early 30s) Older sister of Elena. Married to Mario. Concerned for her younger sister and distrustful of Von Cosel's intentions. Vocal range: Soprano II/Alto

Celia Hoyos/Elena Cover (20s) Nana's younger sister, a little infatuated with Carl, tends to follow her older sister's lead. Vocal range: Lyric Soprano with strong mix belt.

Mario Medina (late 30s) Affable, kind hearted husband to Nana. Sympathetic to Carl. Vocal range: Tenor

Mama Hoyos/ Grandma (50s) Sweet, slightly clueless mother of Elena and Nana. Vocal range: Soprano II/Alto

Papa Hoyos/Sheriff/Carl Cover (50s) Kind, affable, fairly traditional Cuban father to three daughters. Vocal range: Baritone
