Equity actors for principal roles in Flat Rock Playhouse 2022 Season (see breakdown).

All artists must be fully vaccinated.

Qualified actors/singers/dancers of all ethnicities, gender identities, ages, as well as performers with disabilities are encouraged to audition/submit.

For Plays: Please provide a one-minute monologue in the style of the show, from the show that you are auditioning for, or something that you have recently recorded. Please slate your name and the material you will be performing at the top of your video.


For Musicals: Please sing your best audition cut that you already know and love or sing from the show for which you are submitting. MURDER COMEDY, Play *This is NOT the musical by the same title.

Daniel Corbin: (40’s-50’s) Nervous. Maddened by the ineptitude of the Inspector charges with finding his missing wife. He is hilariously anxiety-ridden.

Inspector Levine: (40’s-60’s) Cut from the same cloth as Columbo. Though he may seem inept, distracted, and disinterested in helping to find the missing wife, he’s far from incapable. Comedic chops.

Father Kelleher: (40’s-50’s) “A humble servant of the Lord.” Maybe. Father Kelleher has found Corbin’s wife. Or has he?

Elizabeth Corban: (30’s-40’s) A knockout. Fresh, outdoorsy, and yet sultry. She is Corbin’s found wife! Only...he says she isn’t.

Sidney: (40’s-60’s) “Hilarious little man…” who owns and runs Sidney’s Sandwich Shop. A Catskill combination of Lindy’s and the local general store.

Mrs. Parker: (20’s) Tall, slender, beautiful blonde. The boss's wife. Not the sharpest tool.

Everett Parker: (40’s) The boss. Tres distingue, gray temples, the quintessence of cool--and he knows it.

Jay Perkins: Bass Player/Singer, Male.

W.S. Fluke Holland Drummer: (CAST)

Sam Phillips: Male; Age 33. The Father of Rock ‘n’ Roll and founder of Sun Records; discovered Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and many others. A towering and charismatic figure in American music.

Dyanne: Elvis’s girlfriend/Singer.

Jets:

Tony: Handsome, older teenager, who has outgrown the Jets.

Riff: Glowing, driving, intelligent, slightly wacky leader of the Jets.

Diesel: Lieutenant to Riff, big, slow, steady.

Baby John: The youngest member of the Jets, awed at everything, even being a Jet.

A-Rab: Enjoys everything, takes nothing seriously.

Action: Most aggressive member of the Jets, a cat-like ball of fury.

Snowboy: Bespectacled, self-styled expert.

Big Deal: Jet.

Kiddo: Jet.

Anybody’s: Scrawny teen-aged girl, pathetically dressed to imitate the Jets.

Velma: Riff’s girlfriend, young, slithery, sexy, lost in a world of jive.

Graziella: Girlfriend of Diesel, impressed with herself.

Sharks:

Bernardo: Handsome, proud, fluid leader of the Sharks.

Chino: Shy, gentle, sweet-faced young boy, the intended husband of Maria.

Maria: Lovely young and obedient immigrant Puerto Rican girl, excited and enthusiastic about her new life in America, but with a stubborn inner strength that allows her to evolve into a strong woman.

Anita: Older and wiser in the ways of the world, flashy, sharp-tongued, and with a knowing sexuality.

Rosalia: Shark girl.

Consuelo: Shark girl.

The Adults:

Doc: Middle-aged drug store owner, tired and worn out.

Lieutenant Schrank: Plainclothes policeman used to being in charge.

Officer Krupke: A not-too-bright street cop.

Glad Hand: Nerdy, cheerful, and ill-equipped social director at the gym dance.

“Written and set during South Africa’s Apartheid era of institutionalized racism and segregation, South African playwright Athol Fugard’s dramatic play concerns two half-brothers who share the same mother, who is black. One of the brothers can pass for white, while the other cannot.” **Historically, the brothers have been predominately cast with one black actor and one white actor. FRP welcomes submissions from any actors who feel they are appropriate for the role of Morris.

MUSICAL

DONNA (late 30s-early 40s – the mother of a 20-year-old girl) Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Principal role.

SOPHIE (20) A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano. Principal role.

TANYA (late 30s-early 40s) A former singer in the “Dynamos”. Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Supporting Principal role.

ROSIE (late 30s-early 40s) Also a former singer in the “Dynamos” who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She’s confident, strong and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, a bit of a clown. The actress who sings. Supporting Principal role.

LISA (18-25) Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Should be African American, Hispanic-American, Asian-American, Native American, or any non-Caucasian young woman. Sings and dances well. Featured Ensemble role.

ALI (18-25) Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. Featured Ensemble role.

SAM (35-45) May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Sings. Baritone. Supporting Principal role.

HARRY (35-45) May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. English accent. Sings. High baritone, tenor. Supporting Principal role.

BILL (35-45) May be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Supporting Principal role.

SKY (late 20s) Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. Featured Ensemble role.
