BREAKDOWN

SISTER ACT

First rehearsal: May 24, 2022; Performs: June 2-June 12, 2022

Delores Van Cartier (25-35). Black/African American. An aspiring club performer, trying to find both fame and a place in the world. When forced to hide in the convent, she initially resists her new lifestyle but learns to embrace it when she works with the choir. Loud-mouthed and outspoken but caring. E3 - F#5.

Mother Superior (40s-70s). The head of the convent, judgmental and suffers no fools. Extremely protective about keeping her sisters away from the outside world. D3 - E5.

Sister Mary Robert (18-25). A postulant. Shy and soft-spoken but singing with Deloris lets her find her voice. Her wallflower lifestyle has made her live a shell of a life. F#3 - A5.

Sister Mary Patrick (20s-40s). A nun of the convent. Consistently perky, enthusiastic, and easily excitable. Soprano.

Sister Mary Martin-of-tours (40s-70s). A nun of the convent. Clearly in her own world but has her moments of surprising clarity.

Sister Mary Theresa (60s-70s). A nun of the convent. The oldest of the group. Decrepit at a glance, but secretly packs a punch.

Sister Mary Lazarus (CAST). A nun of the convent.

Michelle (20s-30s). Black/African American. One of Deloris's back-up singers. Sarcastic and always quick with a retort. Will understudy Delores. B♭3 - F5.

Tina (20s-30s). Black/African American. One of Deloris's back-up singers. A little thick-headed and naive. A♭3 - F5.

Monsignor O’Hara (40s-70s). Pastor of the parish. Constantly concerned with financial matters, though soul music surprisingly puts him in a different mood. E3 - G4.

Curtis (20s-50s). A club owner, notorious gangster, and Deloris's boyfriend. Cocky and controlling, always on the verge of violence. Bari-tenor. A2 - A♭4.

Eddie (20s-30s). Black/African/American. The desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and a high school classmate of Deloris who helps get her into hiding. Faces a lot of nerves when under pressure, causing him to sweat profusely. A♭2 - B4.

TJ (16-30). Curtis's nephew and one of his thugs. Deft and cognizant of the fact, constantly in a state of ignorant bliss. D♭3 - E♭5.

Joey (20s-30s). One of Curtis's gang. Believes himself to be quite the ladies' man. B♭2 - E♭5.

Pablo (20s-40s). One of Curtis's gang. A natural follower. Speaks Spanish. C4 - F5.

Ernie (20s-40s). One of Curtis's gang. Initially thought to be a mindless yes-man, he turns out to be an undercover police informant.

CALENDAR GIRLS

First rehearsal: June 7, 2022; Performs: June 16-June 26, 2022

All roles available

Chris (50s). You want Chris at your party. She will talk to people she doesn’t know, find things to say to fill the silence and generate laughter. Chris is at home in crowds, holding court, being the center of attention. Without Chris in her life, Annie would be better behaved, her life less fun. The two of them are like naughty schoolgirls. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Annie (50s). Annie will join in mischief but is at heart more conformist and less confrontational than Chris. The mischievousness Chris elicits saves Annie from being a saint. She has enough edge to be interesting, and enough salt not to be too sweet. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Cora (around 40). Cora’s horizons were broadened by having gone to college. This caused a tectonic shift with her more parochial parents. She came back to them pregnant and tail-between-legs, but Cora has too much native resilience to be downtrodden. She is the joker in the pack, but never plays the fool. Her wit is deadpan. It raises laughter in others, but rarely in herself. Cora sings and plays the piano. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Jessie (late 60s/70s). Get on the right side of Jessie as a teacher and she’ll be the teacher you remember for life. Get on the wrong side and you will regret every waking hour. A lover of life, Jessie doesn’t bother with cosmetics — her elixir of life is bravery. Jessie goes on rollercoasters. Her husband has been with her a long time and is rarely surprised by her actions. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Celia (30s-50). A woman more at home in a department store than a church hall, she always feels like she’s drifted in from another world. Which she has. She is particularly enamored of Jessie, and despite the fact Jessie has very little time for most Celias of this world, there is a rebelliousness in Celia to which Jessie responds. It’s what sets Celia apart from the vapid materialism of her peer group. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Ruth (40s). Ruth’s journey is from the false self-confidence of the emotionally abused to the genuine self-confidence of the woman happy in her own skin. Eager to please but not a rag doll, and despite being Marie’s right-hand woman she is desperate to keep everyone happy. They want her around, and they feel protective of her because they sense there is something better in Ruth than her life is letting out. (Partial or suggested nudity required)

Marie (50s). Marie has gradually built the current ‘Marie’ around herself over the years as a defense mechanism. She went to her Oz and found Oz didn’t want her. She came back scorched. The women’s club is a trophy to her, which justifies her entire existence. (No nudity)

John (50s). Annie's husband, John, is a human sunflower. Not a saint. Not a hero. Just the kind of man you’d want in your car when crossing America. When he dies it feels like someone somewhere turned a light off. (No nudity)

Rod (50s). Chris's husband. You have to be a certain kind of guy to stick with Chris, and Rod loves it. He can give back what he gets and has a deadpan humor which has always made Chris laugh. He drinks a lot but never so much as to have a problem. He would work every hour to make his shop a success. John was his friend, even though the relationship was originally channeled through their wives. (No nudity)

Lawrence (20s). Hesitant without being nerdy, Lawrence is a shy young man with enough wit to make a joke and enough spirit to turn up at the club hall in the first place. When he arranges the photos, he is close to female nudity but sees only the photo. (No nudity)

Lady Cravenshire (60s). Lady Cravenshire really doesn’t mean to be so patronizing. But the girls seem from another world—the world of her estate workers. When she makes an entrance, she must make an entrance. Dresses in white or cream to outplay the others, always with the biggest hat. (No nudity)

Elaine (20s). Elaine also really doesn’t mean to be so patronizing. But Jessie seems from another world–the world of her grandmother. Her clinical white clothes slice through like a knife. You feel you could cut yourself on that dress. (No nudity)

Liam (20s). Liam would like to be directing other things than photoshoots. He’s not so unprofessional as to let it show, but we can sense a slight weariness at having to deal with these women. There’s a resigned patience to his actions and each smile he makes we feel is professional. For Liam, this photoshoot is a job. And not the job he wanted. (No nudity)

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s STATE FAIR

First rehearsal: June 21, 2022; Performs: June 30-July 17, 2022

All roles available

Margy Frake (late teens-20s). A spirited young woman who finds herself questioning many things in her life, including her boyfriend, Harry, after his proposal of marriage. When Margy makes an unlikely connection at the fair with a worldly reporter named Pat, everything in her world changes. G#3 - D#5.

Emily Arden (20s-30s). A glamorous singer-dancer who's been on the road for years, Emily is determined to someday make it on Broadway in New York City. When Wayne falls in love with her, she tries to keep his eagerness at bay with a lighthearted air and her seasoned wit. B♭3 - F5.

Wayne Frake (late teens-20s). Bright-eyed but without much ambition, Wayne has been dating Eleanor, who can no longer accompany him to the State Fair. When he becomes hopelessly enamored on the Fairgrounds Midway, he questions everything around him and risks it all for a singer named Emily. A2 - F4.

Pat Gilbert (20s-30s). An experienced, seen-it-all reporter, Pat has traveled the world in his time working as a war correspondent. He is slightly disappointed to now be covering subjects like the Iowa State Fair. When he meets Margy, however, he marvels at her perspective and considers trading in his old ways to be a part of her life. C2 - E4.

Melissa Frake (40-50s). A loving mother who wants to maintain harmony in the Frake family. While her heart is set, once again, on winning the best mincemeat and best pickles contests at the State Fair, she worries about her children as they grow up and move on. At the fair, she and Abel rekindle their strong and loving partnership. A♭3 - D5.

Abel Frake (40-50s). The loving and sometimes mischievous patriarch of the Frake family, Abel is a farmer who takes great pride in his pig, Blue Boy, whom he hopes will again win the blue ribbon at this year's Iowa State Fair. A family man through and through, he has blind faith in his children and a deep love for his wife, Melissa. A2 - E4

Charlie (20s-30s). A photographer and smart aleck at the Fair with Pat.

Eleanor (late teens-20s). Wayne’s girlfriend who has been accepted to nursing school.

Vivian (20s). Dancer performing at the Fair. C4 - E♭5

Jeanne (20s). Dancer performing at the Fair. C4 - E♭5

Harry (20s). Margy’s assumed boyfriend who has proposed before the Fair.

Dave Munson (30s-50s). Shop owner, curmudgeon, and friend of Abel.

THE WEDDING SINGER

First rehearsal: July 12, 2022; Performs: July 21-July 31, 2022

Robbie Hart (20s). The charismatic lead singer of a wedding band. A truly 'nice' guy that has the classic lead singer aura and personality. Also a bit of a dreamer. In love with love until Linda leaves him at the altar and breaks his heart. B3 - C6.

Julia Sullivan (20s). A waitress with a heart of gold, she is the girl next door in looks and personality. Engaged to Glen but finds herself falling in love with Robbie and is conflicted as to who to choose. Empathetic, kind, and brave. G3 - F5.

Holly (20s). Julia's cousin. Sex positive and always up for a good time, but wants to be loved and is looking for romantic fulfillment in all the wrong places. She is in love with Sammy. A3 - E5.

Sammy (20s). The bass player in the wedding band and one of Robbie's best friends. A stereotypical loud-mouth guy's guy, but beneath all that, he is actually in love with Holly. C4 - A5.

George (20s). The wedding band's keyboardist and one of Robbie's best friends. George is sensitive, smart and expresses as genderqueer (noting that term was not coined until 3 years after The Wedding Singer takes place). A foil to Sammy. C4 - A5.

Linda (20s). Robbie's hard-rock fiancé who leaves him at the altar. Keeps Robbie around as a back-up plan. More in love with the idea of Robbie being a rock star than she actually is with Robbie. A3 - D5.

Glen (20s.) Julia's fiancé. A Wall Street broker. He is rich, shallow, and materialistic. Constantly tries to buy Julia's love with money. He is a bit of a womanizer. D4 - B5.

Rosie (CAST). Robbie's grandmother.

THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND

First rehearsal: July 26, 2022; Performs: August 4-14, 2022 All roles available.

TRACK 1 (20s-40s). Female Presenting. Tough and strong. Impassioned. Has been hurt. A bit of a lush and snob. Clumsy. Hopeful. E3 - A5.

TRACK 2 (20s-30s). Female Presenting. Independent. Strong dancer. Zany. Bawdy and brassy, but also reflective and poised. Seductive. F3 - G5.
