SEEKING

Very Strong Equity singers/actors for roles in BUDDY: THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (see breakdown).

Actors from underrepresented groups encouraged to submit.

Connecticut and Westchester talent encouraged to submit.

ALL ACTORS MUST BE FULLY VAXED WITH PROOF OF VACCINATION.


INSTRUCTIONS

Please prepare 1950's style rock song. If you play a musical instrument suited to the role you're auditioning for (see breakdown), please demonstrate. You may also use the accompaniment provided at https://www.musictheatreofct.com/auditions . Please slate your name and the name of your audition piece. All rehearsals and performances at Music Theatre of CT in Norwalk CT. NYC actors (who are cast) will have RT train travel via Metro North (1 hour 10 commute) by the theatre.

Music Theatre of Connecticut, currently beginning its 35th season, is located in a beautiful theatre center in Norwalk, CT. BREAKDOWN

All actors must be great singers in the 1950’s/60’s rock and roll style, great with harmonies and quick studies.

Some roles include playing instruments (piano/bass/guitar/drums).

If you play a musical instrument suited to the role you're auditioning for, please include a demonstration of instrumental skills.

BUDDY HOLLY - 18-30, singer-songwriter and star from Lubbock, Texas. Buddy is intelligent, charismatic, preferably 6’ or over. Plays guitar, has a great feel for rock ‘n’ roll. Serious star potential and has a desire to live as a rock ‘n’ roll superstar every night.

JOE B. MAULDIN - 18-30, Double bass player from Lubbock, Texas. Serious, very square with great musical ability.

JERRY ALLISON - 18-30, Drummer from Lubbock, Texas. Good looking, irrepressible cheeky guy. Great rock and roll drummer.

RITCHIE VALENS (and others) - Latino/Hispanic, 18-25, good-looking, attractive, handsome with serious charisma, a dedicated eye for the ladies, and the ability to hold the stage in his own right. His key song is “La Bamba.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus.

THE BIG BOPPER (and others) - 18-64, a former DJ, he is a Texan with an irrepressible larger than-life character with the ability to command the stage on his own as a single performer. His key song is “Chantilly Lace.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus.

MARIA ELENA HOLLY/Hayrider - Latino / Hispanic, 18-25, Attractive, classy and well-educated. Ability to play any instrument is a huge plus.

HIPOCKETS DUNCAN - 18-40, An exuberant hometown radio DJ from Lubbock, Texas, with an air of authority and a keen sense of humor. Ability to play a musical instrument a plus.

NORMAN PETTY (and others) - 18-40, A record producer from Clovis, New Mexico, with a businesslike manner and a love of making records. Ability to play a musical instrument a plus.

VI PETTY/Hayrider - 18-40, Norman Petty’s wife, has a heart of gold. Has exceptional rock ‘n’ roll keyboard ability, with a good sense of humor.

MALE APOLLO PERFORMER - Great African American singer/actor with great comic timing, 22-40, Ability to hold the stage on his own. Key song “Party.” Ability to play a musical instrument a plus.

FEMALE APOLLO PERFORMER - 18-50, Great African American singer/actor with great comic timing. Ability to hold the stage on her own. Key song “Party.” The ability to play a musical instrument is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
