Springs Ensemble Theatre announces its June production of “POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive” by Selina Fillinger, running June 4 through June 21, 2026, at Studio West Mulliken Black Box at the Pikes Peak State College Downtown Campus. This marks SET’s first production at Pikes Peak State College since the two organizations announced a new partnership designed to strengthen the local theatre ecosystem by combining forces and creating opportunities for students to work alongside theatre professionals.
A razor-sharp Broadway comedy with escalating disasters, impossible deadlines, and one crisis after another, “POTUS" follows the seven women tasked with managing the fallout from multiple public missteps by the bumbling Commander-in-Chief. What begins as a public relations nightmare spirals into a full-scale comic emergency. Rather than spoofing on one party or the other, “POTUS” satirizes the machinery of politics itself: ego, image management, scandal, institutional dysfunction, and the people left cleaning up (and potentially complicit in) the mess.
At the center of the story is a truth often overlooked in public life: many of the people doing the hardest work, solving the biggest problems, and keeping institutions functioning are women whose influence is not always publicly recognized. “POTUS” turns that reality into comedy while also giving center stage to seven dynamic female characters who are smart, messy, strategic, funny, and fully human.
That theme extends beyond the script. This production unites seven powerhouse femme performers from across the Pikes Peak region, whose leadership, artistry, and influence have helped shape local stages and enrich the cultural life of Colorado Springs. The partnership between Springs Ensemble Theatre and Pikes Peak State College creates a fitting platform for their talent to take center stage.
“The cast is an assemblage of some of the strongest women I know,” said director Jenny Maloney. “They are all forces of nature themselves and the best voices to explore this story of chaos, competence, and survival. By the end of the night audiences will be laughing and relating to every word, regardless of personal politics.”
Known for producing bold contemporary theatre in intimate settings, Springs Ensemble Theatre brings the action downtown for a limited three-week run. In the close quarters of Studio West, audiences will experience a riotous spectacle of power gone sideways.
