Riot girls smash the patriarchy in Lizzie, a rock musical at City Theater Company. This blistering rock opera is based on the 19th century legend surrounding notorious accused murderess Lizzie Borden. Four women front a six-piece rock band to tell a timeless tale of murder and mayhem. Michael Gray, CTC's Producing Artistic Director, directs, assisted by long-time CTC Music Director Joe Trainor. Lizzie marks the CTC debut of Darby Elizabeth McLaughlin in the title role, alongside Jill Knapp of popular band Hot Breakfast!, Kyleen Shaw, and Grace Tarves. The band features Caty Butler, Meghan Doyle, Jon Luther, Noelle Picara, Joey Lopes, and Sheila Hershey. Lizzie features music by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Alan Stevens Hewitt, lyrics by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Tim Maner, a book by Tim Maner, additional music by Tim Maner, and additional lyrics by Alan Stevens Hewitt. The musical is based on an original concept by Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer and Tim Maner. City Theater Company, founded in 1993, performs contemporary comedies, new works, and classic musicals to critical acclaim in an intimate black box theater on the Wilmington waterfront. This organization is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.

City Theater Company blasts through Wilmington this December with Passing Strange, the powerful rock musical by Stew. This coming-of-age story follows a young black musician's search for 'The Real' -- meaning and purpose through the creation of his art.
