Dare To Defy Productions Presents Stephen Sondheim's ASSASSINS

Dare to Defy Productions will present Stephen Sondheim's thrilling musical Assassins, January 18-26, 2019 at the PNC Arts Annex!

Assassins is a timeless yet timely musical that tells the story of the nine individuals who have assassinated, or attempted to assassinate, American presidents, in a darkly humorous blend of fiction and history, conspiracy and truth. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by John Weidman, the show features a variety of musical styles from across the eras to depict the perverse motivations of these characters from across history; from John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald.

This show "has so much substance and wit as well as a complex, deep intrigue about dreams and identity." The characters, played by a cast of some of our best local actors, are described as "misfits and outcasts who come from vastly different walks of life, and yet they are so fundamentally, problematically human." This is a musical with "a rare kind of depth that will amuse, entertain and provoke audiences." Not only will it force us audience to question the social messages we have been indoctrinated with, but it will also teach us fascinating historical intricacies.

And what of the musical's contemporary relevance? Caroline Yu said it best, "In this Trump era, where the notion of truth is being completely dismantled and division is being amplified, the feelings and stories of these disillusioned men and women feel particularly illuminating."
