About this studio
The Dance Refinery has taught in Indianapolis since 1976 and operates from 8335 Shelby St., describing itself as Indiana's largest dance and gymnastics facility. Under director Lynn Herrick it offers dance, gymnastics and voice instruction, and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that raises funds for tuition scholarships, guest choreography and educational opportunities. The recreational dance program takes all skill levels from ages 3 to 18 and covers ballet and jazz fundamentals, tap, hip hop and acro-dance integration. Recreational gymnastics and tumbling runs from age 4, and separate competitive dance and gymnastics teams are offered. Other programs include the Gladiators, a boys-only track and an adaptive dance program for dancers with disabilities. New students can take a free drop-in skill-level evaluation, and the studio stages an annual recital. A retail shop, The Dance Depot, operates alongside the studio.
