Dance classes in Indianapolis, Indiana
Indianapolis Ballet is a professional resident ballet company based at 502 N Capitol Avenue, the first such company in the city in over a decade, and it runs the Indianapolis School of Ballet, established in 2006. The school describes itself as the region's premier destination for pre-professional ballet instruction and the only local studio specializing in the Balanchine technique. Its Young Children's Program serves ages 3 to 7 with movement, music and imaginative play leading into classical ballet foundations, and includes the annual May We Dance showcase. The Pre-Professional Program places students by assessed skill rather than age and adds tap, jazz and modern alongside ballet, while the invitation-only Professional Trainee Program offers full-day training and performance alongside the company. Emphasis is placed on wellness, nutrition and mental health rather than competition. New students of any age may take a first class free, adult and open classes run for ages 13 up, and the company also delivers Indy Ballet Classrooms outreach and Dance for Parkinson's sessions. Season productions include Cinderella, The Nutcracker and Ballets Russes.
