Smuin Contemporary Ballet is a San Francisco professional company based at 1830 17th St in Potrero Hill, now in its 32nd season, presenting mainstage programs in San Francisco, Mountain View and Walnut Creek alongside its annual holiday production The Christmas Ballet and an in-studio Choreography Showcase of works by company artists. Repertoire spans works by founder Michael Smuin, artistic director Amy Seiwert and guest choreographers, and the company offers audio-described and ASL-interpreted performances. Attached to the company is the Smuin Center for Dance, an open school offering ballet at every level for ages three to adult, including PreBallet, Ballet Preparatory, graded ballet, pointe, Progressing Ballet Technique, pilates and floor barre, plus half-day ballet retreats, an advanced company class open to the public, a free children's confidence-building series called ConfiDANCE, and a parent-and-child class, Dance Together.
