Dance Mission Theater at 3316 24th Street in San Francisco's Mission District is a women-led, artist-driven, multi-cultural and multi-generational community arts space and performance venue, describing itself as a sanctuary for women and queer-identified artists, artists of color and culturally-specific dance ensembles. It has been operated since 1998 under the 501(c)(3) of Krissy Keefer's Dance Brigade, the social-change dance company founded in 1984; the theater marked its 25th year as Dance Brigade marked its 50th. The center runs more than 50 weekly classes for all ages, spanning hip hop, salsa, modern, taiko, samba, ballet, vogue, Cuban folkloric, rueda, rumba, Afro-modern, Afro-Haitian, reggaeton, Brazilian, Nia, bhangra, modern jazz, Congolese, belly dance and dancehall. Programming is split between adult classes and workshops, a youth program with summer camps and in-school residencies, and the Grrrl Brigade youth training company. Dance Mission also presents seasons of work including a Choreographers Showcase and the D.I.R.T. Festival, and rents its theatre and studios.
