About this studio
Natraj Dance Academy is one of the leading Indian classical dance schools in the Chicago area, established in 1983 by Vijayalakshmi Shetty to promote and preserve Indian heritage and culture. Students receive training in both the practice and the theory of several classical Indian dance styles, specifically Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam. It is one of the oldest dance schools in the Chicago area and says it has trained several thousand students over its history. The academy runs classes at several locations across the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago, including Niles, Schaumburg, Prospect Heights, Long Grove and Grayslake, so as to serve the wider community. The site also publishes class schedules, an events listing, a gallery and information on certifications available through the school.
