About this studio
Ballet Folklorico Huehuecoyotl is a non-profit Mexican folkloric dance organization in Elgin, Illinois. It grew out of a youth group activity: as members learned Mexican folkloric dance they wanted to keep studying Mexico's regional heritage and share it year-round with a wider audience, and the company was formally established in 1996 under founder Julian Hernandez. In 2000 a children's group was added under the guidance of Cynthia Hernandez, so that younger generations could learn about their cultural heritage while taking part in a healthy activity. The organization's work centers on group rehearsal, instruction and public performance of traditional dances from the regions of Mexico.
