Dance classes in Okemos, Michigan
Happendance is a non-profit dance school and professional performance company founded in 1976 and based at 3448 Hagadorn Road, Suite C, Okemos, Michigan, serving the mid-Michigan and Lansing area. Its stated mission is to stimulate support for the art of dance through performance and education and to broaden access to dance for lifelong physical and mental fitness. The school teaches dance as a developmentally appropriate process linking technique with creative expression, keeping classes small; its curriculum draws on the National Standards of Dance in Education. Classes run from Creative Dance for ages 3-4 and Creative Dance and Technique for 5-6, through introductory ballet, jazz and contemporary at 6-7, to graded ballet with pointe prep and pointe, contemporary/modern (Laban/Bartenieff, Graham, Horton, Dunham and Limon), jazz, hip hop/jazz/funk, tap, acro and a jumps, leaps and turns conditioning class. An Ageless Dancer class serves mature dancers, and private and semi-private lessons are available in any style. Happendance also runs the Education Exchange schools residency program and a Community Dance Project.
The Williamston Theatre has been awarded a grant from the Ingham County Hotel/Motel Grant Fund through the Arts Council of Greater Lansing in support of its marketing initiatives to out-of-county residents.
