About this studio
Dorrance Dance is an award-winning professional tap dance company based in New York City, founded in 2011 by artistic director Michelle Dorrance and marking its 15th anniversary in 2026. The company is dedicated to tap dance, its traditions and its possibilities, made up of dancers and musicians rooted in improvisation with an emphasis on choreographic exploration and musical composition. It tours with works including A Swing Suite and the site-specific SOUNDspace. Rather than running a school, it offers a company repertory class for professional and pre-professional dancers at the Rhythmic Arts Center in Manhattan, periodic intensives such as a Nutcracker Suite winter intensive, and free all-levels community tap classes.
