Creative Dance Arts

Creative Dance Arts is a dance school at 2037 Route 9, Round Lake, New York. Originally named The Donna Smead School of Dance, it was founded in 1976 by Donna Turner; her first teaching assistant, Patti Friedman, took an education degree and has been owner and director since 1999. The studio offers technique-based training in a warm atmosphere for both beginners and accomplished dancers, aiming to serve pre-professional and recreational students alike. The facility has three studios with sprung subfloors and Marley vinyl, a dressing room and a family lounge. Classes progress from toddler movement (with a parent or caregiver staying to facilitate) and 3-4 and 5-6 year old combination classes through graded ballet and tap, Cecchetti ballet technique leading to pointe, jazz covering theatrical, lyrical, hip hop and modern jazz styles, contemporary jazz and modern dance using Graham, Cunningham and Limon techniques. Adults are served by adult ballet, adult tap, open drop-in classes, Dance n Tone, Pop Pilates and yoga. There is an annual spring recital and a holiday performance troupe tour, plus summer camps and dance-themed birthday parties. Class schedules are not published online; placement is by teacher assessment.
