THE NICETIES follows a discussion between an ambitious young Black student at an elite East Coast university and her esteemed white professor who meet to discuss a paper about the American Revolution. What begins as a polite clash in perspective explodes into an urgent debate about race and power. In a time when instead of listening we’re waiting to offer an opinion, this play takes an empathetic view of both sides of a conversation we all need to be ready to have.

March 23, 2026 Undermain Theatre has named Erin Malone Turner as the 2026 recipient of the Katherine Owens Fund for New Work. The Dallas-based playwright will receive $10,000 to support the development of a new play.
