As the final production of its last full season in the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Kalita Humphreys Theater, Dallas Theater Center proudly presents the world premiere of Sarah, Plain and Tall, based on the Newbery Award-winning novella by Patricia MacLachlan. Originally produced as a one-act musical for young audiences by TheatreworksUSA in 2002, Joe Calarco directs DTC's expanded, full-length production, featuring a book by Julia Jordan and heartfelt music and lyrics by Tony Award® nominees Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde The Musical).

The American classic's tale begins when a young unconventionAl Fisherwoman named Sarah from Maine answers a widowed Kansas farmer's personal ad looking for someone to be his wife and a mother to his two children. A captivating and heartwarming journey begins as she sets out from the Eastern seaboard and arrives in the Midwest to meet her potential new family. Together, Sarah, Jacob Witting and his daughter and son overcome fear and loneliness through patience, love and understanding to experience the hopeful joy and challenges of building a family.

"DTC's 50th season has been an exhilarating roller coaster ride of high energy rock n' roll, intense social drama, , theological exploration, and a modern look at ethics in our society," DTC artistic director Kevin Moriarty, says. "What better way to end the season than with the world premiere of an uplifting musical that celebrates enduring themes of love, hope, and home which the whole family can enjoy!"

The outstanding cast, all making DTC debuts, includes Broadway actors Becca Ayers (Sarah), Kenneth Boys (William), Colin Hanlon (Matthew), Herndon Lackey (Jacob), Kate Loprest (Estelle), Cristen Paige (Maggie), and Kate Wetherhead (Anna), with local actor Max Ary as Caleb.

The acclaimed design team includes Tony Award®-nominated set designer Anna Louizos (In the Heights and Avenue Q), Anne Kennedy (costume designer), Chris Lee (lighting designer), and returning sound designer Ryan Rumery.

All performances of Sarah, Plain and Tall will be held at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, located at 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd., at Blackburn St., where it runs April 22 - May 24. Preview performances April 22-26.
