Tom's wacky romp through ball, club, plate, and hat juggling is one of a kind. It includes the outrageous juggling of small human beings. Don't worry though, they get crash helmets.

GLTF Announces Exciting Shows Of 2009-2010 Season

Charles Fee, Producing Artistic Director of Great Lakes Theater Festival (GLTF), announced plans for the company's ambitious forty-eighth season to Festival Members earlier this week. Scheduled to run from September through May, GLTF's 2009-10 season will feature a Fall Repertory, the Festival's annual holiday classic and a Spring Repertory. In the fall (September 24-November 1, 2009), the Festival will present Rupert Holmes' Tony Award-winning solve-it-yourself musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood (Drood) in rotating repertory with Shakespeare's enchanting comedy, Twelfth Night. GLTF's annual production of Charles Dickens' holiday classic, A Christmas Carol (December 4-December 23, 2009), originally adapted and directed by Gerald Freedman, will mark the midpoint of the Festival's 48th season. GLTF will round out its 2009-10 season with a Spring Repertory (April 8-May 16, 2010) by pairing Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming's outrageous Off-Broadway hit Bat Boy: The Musical with Shakespeare's magical masterpiece, A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Cesear's Forum, one of Cleveland's small professional theatre companies, has received strategic development funding from the George Gund Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council in the amounts of $3,000.00 and $2,000.00 respectively. The combined grants will further governance stratagems in a consultancy with Janus Small & Associates, a community service management firm that specializes in working with local civic and non-profit organizations.

Emmy-nominated Paul Anthony Stewart stars as Raskolnikov in a gripping 90-minute adaptation of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment at The Cleveland Play House. In addition to numerous New York and regional theatre roles, Stewart, who was nominated for his recurring role on 'Guiding Light,' recently appeared on Broadway in the revivals of Fiddler on the Roof and Cyrano - The Musical. Performed with only three actors, the adaptation of Crime and Punishment by Marilyn Campbell and Cut Columbus is being helmed by the acclaimed director of the 2005 Play House production of I Am My Own Wife, Anders Cato. Crime and Punishment begins in the Drury Theatre at The Cleveland Play House on Friday, February 27 and runs through Sunday, March 22, 2009. National Shakespeare Finals To Be Held At Playhouse Square

Cleveland, OH ? In partnership with Great Lakes Theater Festival, the PlayhouseSquare Arts Education Department is hosting the Cleveland Branch Finals of the annual English-Speaking Union?s (ESU) National Shakespeare Competition on Saturday, February 28. Students from 37 Northeast Ohio schools are participating. Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman will deliver the event?s keynote address at 9:00 a.m. ?We are so pleased to be partnering with PlayhouseSquare and Great Lakes Theater Festival on this project,? stated John Rampe, president of the Cleveland Branch of the English-Speaking Union. The winning student from the Cleveland Branch Finals will travel to the National Shakespeare Competition in New York City in April. The winner of that competition receives a full scholarship to the British American Drama Academy?s Midsummer Conservatory Program in Oxford, England. The Shakespeare Competition has been the primary educational program of the ESU Cleveland Branch for more than 20 years. Started with 500 students in New York City schools in 1983, the ESU?s Shakespeare Competition is now a national curriculum-based program that has helped almost 250,000 high school students develop their understanding of Shakespeare -- the beauty and scope of his language as well as the timeless themes embodied in his works -- and their ability to communicate that understanding. Currently the program reaches 16,000 students and 2,000 teachers annually via competitions run by 60 ESU branches across the United States. ?We are excited to bring the Shakespeare Competition to PlayhouseSquare,? said Colleen Porter, director of arts education at PlayhouseSquare. ?It offers yet another avenue for young people to experience the power of live theater and we are especially proud to connect them with the expertise of Great Lakes Theater Festival.? Broadway's most talked about new musical and the biggest Tony Award-winner in years is coming to Cleveland. Spring Awakening, the 8-time Tony Award? winning Broadway musical, will open at PlayhouseSquare's PalaceTheatre and play for 16 performances, March 3-15. Spring Awakening is part of the KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare. Spring Awakening swept the 2007 Tony Awards? winning eight out of its eleven nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director (Michael Mayer), Best Book (Steven Sater), Best Choreography (Bill T. Jones), Best Orchestrations (Duncan Sheik), Best Lighting Design (Kevin Adams), Best Featured Actor (John Gallagher Jr.).
Dee Hoty Featured At Cleveland Play House Annual Gala 6/6

The Cleveland Play House is excited to announce that Dee Hoty, a three-time Tony Award? nominated actress, will be the featured entertainer at their Annual Gala on Saturday, June 6, 2009. Born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio, Hoty began her professional career at The Cleveland Play House as a member of the repertory company (1975 and 1976). The evening begins at 6:30pm and will include complimentary valet parking, a cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres, dinner, silent and live auction, entertainment and dancing. Hoty earned Tony Award? nominations for her starring roles in Footloose, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, and The Will Rogers Follies. She recently starred on Broadway in Mamma Mia! and continued on the national tour in eight major U.S. cities. She can be heard on the original recordings of City of Angels, The Will Rogers Follies, The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public, and Footloose, and on the 2CD set of Stephen Sondheim's Follies from the Papermill Playhouse production. She is also featured on the video/DVD of My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies. Other Broadway shows include City of Angels, Me and My Girl, Big River, The Five O'Clock Girl and Shakespeare's Cabaret. A favorite of Tommy Tune's, Hoty starred opposite him in the recent U.S. tour of Doctor Dolittle. She also appeared with Stacy Keach in the first national tour of Barnum. Her New York nightclub and cabaret appearances include the Russian Tea Room, Rainbow and Stars and the Metropolitan Room with Larry Gatlin.

Returning to Cleveland after acclaimed performances in The Color Purple on Broadway and Gone with the Wind in London?s West End, NaTasha Yvette Williams takes the stage in the lead role of The Cleveland Play House production of Mahalia: A Gospel Musical. Since 1997, when she performed in The Play House production of (I Could) Stop On a Dime and Get Ten Cents Change, Williams has also played in several Broadway national tours and performed her gospel music all over the world. Cleveland Playhouse Lays Off Five Senior Staffers

According to Cleveland.com the Cleveland Play House has laid off five of its senior staff members in an effort to reduce costs and maintain high-quality productions. The Play House will also lessen the amount of shows they will be putting on. All five shows remaining on the 2008-09 lineup will be produced. With more than twelve Broadway shows closing this month alone, these announcements comes as no great surprise. Wednesdays cuts will reduce payroll costs. The playhouse still employs about 50 people year round with more or less coming on as the shows are being produced. These cuts will trim the Play House budget to about 6 million.
