Gustav Mahler: Symphony No.5 in C sharp minor
Schubert’s Symphony No.8 in B minor, D.859 “Unfinished” develops itself from the Allegro moderato in B minor to Andante con moto in E major, achieving a sense of fullness in the unusual symphonic set-up of two movements. The cantabile melodies and the timbres without decorated harmony add some other extraordinariness to this symphony. Symphony No.5 in C sharp minor by Mahler unfolds itself logically from the C sharp minor to the D Major, which embodies Mahler’s ingenious idea of developing the “musical mood” from a depressive one to a liberated one.
