The Shakespeare Project of Chicago presents Thomas Middleton's tragicomedy The Witch, running April 24-27 at various Chicago-area venues as part of its Shakespeare Contemporaries series. Adapted and directed by artistic director Peter Garino, the play entwines the schemes of ambitious Italian nobles with the supernatural power of Hecate and her coven, exploring how human cruelty can rival any otherworldly force. The cast features Michelle Shupe as Hecate, Richard Shavzin as Duke, Kate Young as Duchess, Neil Geistlinger as Fernando, and Christian Davis Aldridge as Sebastian, among others. Performances take place at Niles-Maine District Library, Wilmette Public Library, Mount Prospect Public Library, and Vernon Area Public Library, with admission free and seating limited.
