THE WITCH Free Performances Will Be Presented By Shakespeare Project Of Chicago

The Shakespeare Project of Chicago will continue its 2025-26 Theatrical Reading Season and its Shakespeare Contemporaries Series with free performances of Thomas Middleton's tragicomedy THE WITCH, running April 24-27 at various Chicago-area venues.

In THE WITCH, Thomas Middleton crafts a gripping tragicomedy that entwines the schemes of ambitious Italian nobles with the eerie, otherworldly power of Hecate and her coven. But don't be fooled - while the witches conjure shadows and spells, it is the calculated cruelty of the human heart that delivers the play's most chilling blows.

Adapted and directed by Peter Garino, the Shakespeare Project artistic director, the cast includes Rena Ahmed as Stadlin, Christian Davis Aldridge as Sebastian, Gina Cioffi as Florida, Craig Duff as Antonio. Olivia Fergus-Brummer as Isabella, Joe Fernandez as Hermio and Messenger, Neil Geistlinger as Fernando, Jenny Hoppes as Amoretta, Matt Keeley as Gaspero, Tim Kough as Lord Governor, Eamon McInerney as Firestone and Boy, Tom Morin as Almachildes, Julie Partyka as Old Woman and Hoppo, Christopher Prentice as Aberzanes, Richard Shavzin as Duke, Michelle Shupe as Hecate, Lizzie Williams as Francisca, and Kate Young as Duchess. Sadia Martinez and David Scott Crawford are the understudies.

Admission is free and seating is limited. Performance schedule is as follows: Friday, April 24: 7 p.m. at Niles-Maine District Library, 6960 W. Oakton St., Niles.  Saturday, April 25: 1 p.m. at Wilmette Public Library, 1242 Wilmette Ave., Wilmette.  Sunday, April 26, 2026, 2:00PM - Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect. Monday, April 27, 2026, 6:30PM - Vernon Area Public Library, 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire. Certain venues require registration in advance.
