Performing at the Black Box Theatre in the Woodstock High School (Woodstock, IL), GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES tells the story of Kayleen and Doug, who meet as children and spend the next thirty years bonding over their wounds, both inside and out.

This thirty year story is told in non-linear fashion, jumping between childhood and adulthood all throughout, allowing a viewer to piece together what exactly fuels such a complicated bond.

Directed by Jake Heelein, stage managed by Erin Liston, and produced by Hunter Johnson, GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES stars local actors Lexi DeWitt and Daniel Lee Hollander.

Cast

Lexi DeWitt
Kayleen
Lexi DeWitt is an Acting BA graduate of Columbia College Chicago and a certified actor combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors. Most recently, you may have seen her as Paris in Romeo and Juliet (Theater Lab) or as Conrade/Sister Francis in Much Ado About Nothing (Silverstage Theatre Company). You may also have seen her fight choreography and intimacy choreography in various productions with Chicago’s Theatre Above the Law, Raven Theatre, Silverstage Theatre Company, Theater Lab, and Woodstock Shakespeare Players. Lexi has always been inspired by the macabre and the darkness of realism in theatre, and she is so grateful to Silverstage for allowing her to bring Kayleen to life in that light. She is delighted to be working with a group of artists that is so passionate, talented, insightful, and dedicated to their craft. Gruesome Playground Injuries is a profound story that rides the line between violence and intimacy, showing the ugly parts of life that often go untold; she hopes you appreciate the awkward tension as much as she does.
Daniel Lee Hollander
Doug
Daniel Lee Hollander is thrilled to be making his Silverstage debut with Gruesome Playground Injuries. He has recently been seen performing at Six Flags Great America in shows such as The Ringmaster’s Cabaret, Love at First Fright, Adrenal!ne, and Honky Tonk Hangout. Other select credits include All Shook Up, Sh-Boom! Life Could Be a Dream, Cinderella, The Gifts of the Magi, and The Sound of Music. Daniel cannot wait to share with all of you the journey of these two intertwined lives! He finds Doug’s path throughout the show has inspired him to search for the joy in the everyday in order to balance out against how pain can radiate past the self if it is left to continuously fester. He hopes that everyone is able to use the experience of seeing this show to reconnect with their inner child, while also acknowledging the wonderful journey that their lives have taken over the years. Daniel would also like to thank his family and friends for their unwavering support!
