A Community Transformed: Leopoldstadt Then and Now at Writers Theatre

This lecture explores the cultural history of the Leopoldstadt neighborhood of Vienna from the Habsburg era to today, led by Mechtild Widrich of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Anna Souchuk of DePaul University. Widrich is Chair and Professor in the Department of Art History, Theory, and Criticism and editor of a book on the cultural history of the Viennese district. Souchuk is a scholar of twentieth-century Germany and Austria with a focus on memory culture and the Austrian process of coming to terms with the past.
