On Saturday, May 10th, 2025, 7 p.m. EDT, Upstart Arts will premiere the first chapter of Something Fresh, a three-part radio play. Michelle Denise Norton has adapted and directed P. G. Wodehouse's Something Fresh, the first book of the hilarious adventures set at Lord Emsworth's Blandings Castle. A cross between a cozy pastoral and an Egyptian artifact heist thriller, Something Fresh is the perfect Spring Adventure. Author Ashe Marsdon is feeling listless and bored in London. Soon, adventure, in the person of the intrepid Joan Valentine, will be galvanizing him back to life. Meanwhile, the recently engaged Honorable Frederick Threepwood would like his London visit to be free of anxiety an incident from his past brings. As Freddie's father, Clarence, Lord Emsworth, meets with American businessman J. Preston Peters, Freddie's fiancèe, Aline Peters, dines with George Emerson, an energetic young American businessman unhappy with her engagement. When Lord Emsworth takes Mr. Peters' prize scarab, Cheops, 4th Dynasty, back to Blandings Castle, the scene shifts as well, and we get a clever mix of comic pastoral and slapstick heist. Who ends up with the scarab? Will Aline call off the engagement? What talent will Joan reveal next? Who will collect the 50,000 dollar reward?
