Ware Center Presents Festival Favorite THE DOUBLE, 6/23 & 26-27

Two months ago we ran an enigmatic film called 'Enemy' starring Jake Gyllenhal. Though fascinating, the audience left the theatre scratching their heads 'What was THAT?' Now, a second retelling of the best-selling novel 'The Double' has hit the screens. This one takes a completely different approach to the novel -- it's a comedy-drama, not science fiction; it does not feature any other worldy creatures like giant spiders, and it stars Jesse Eisenberg, an oscar-nominee for 'The Social Network.' Hartwick III, Mike Pries, and Open Stage of Harrisburg will partner to present the third installment in the STORIES FROM HOME series, Dauphin County, June 19 through 29 at the theatre in the street level of the Walnut Street Parking Garage in downtown Harrisburg. Performances are today, June 19-29, 2014. This third annual theatrical celebration will play at 8pm on June 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28, at 2pm on June 21, 22, and 29, and at 7pm on June 22.
Barry Kornhauser's Receives Top National Theater Award

The Children's Theater Foundation of America (CTFA) has announced that Barry Kornhauser of Millersville University, a nationally recognized playwright, director and educator has been named the recipient of its 2014 Medallion Award. The Award is regarded as the highest honor in the field of Theater for Young Audiences. This year's ceremony - where the award will be officially announced and presented -- will take place in the Imperial Ballroom of the Denver Hyatt at the annual American Alliance for Theatre and Education national conference in Denver, Colorado on Friday, August 1. Kornhauser will be attending to accept his award.

From today, June 11th-June 21st, Popcorn Hat Players will present Aesop's Fables at the Gamut Classic Theatre. A delightful assortment of Aesop's famous fables from 'The Cat Maiden' to 'The Two Frogs' to 'The Ant and the Grasshopper', will make children laugh as well as learn some valuable lessons along the way! Each of Aesop's fables has a moral. Some of the famous ones in this play include 'Think Before You Answer,' 'Don't Be Greedy,' and 'Look Before You Leap!'
People's Shakespeare Project to Present TAMING OF THE SHREW, Begin. 6/19

On June 19-22 and 26-29, The People's Shakespeare Project (TPSP) will present eight outdoor performances (weather permitting) of one of Shakespeare's most rollicking and sometimes controversial comedies, Taming of the Shrew. All performances will be held on an outdoor stage next to The Swan Pond in the middle of Millersville University's campus. Each evening starts with live music at 7 p.m. The play begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. The final Saturday performance on June 28 will be open-captioned. There is no ticket price, however there is a suggested donation of $5.

York Little Theatre will present GYPSY June 20-22 and 26-29 in the Studio. GYPSY takes place during the colorful life of the theatre in the 1920's. The musical tells the backstage tale of vaudeville entertainer turned burlesque stripper Gypsy Rose Lee and her overbearing mother, Rose. Rose battles directors, theatre owners and hotel managers in her efforts to push her two daughters toward stardom during the dying days of vaudeville.
