The Marble In My Mouth is a fever dream play that asks: What happens when love has nowhere to go? If your grief were to take physical form, what would it become? How do we keep moving forward when what we want most is behind us? Enter the Squonk, here to help, nudge, move, push, eventually SHOVE Glen into the Deep Down of his grief. Memories become tone poems, his love becomes a hand dance, his frustration becomes a night at the cabaret; it doesn’t make sense, but neither does grief.
We are a quartet of multi-disciplinary physical theatre makers from Philadelphia and graduates of Pig Iron's MFA Program in Devised Performance. We make work about death, grief, trauma, sensuality, the impact of our world on our bodies, belonging, the damage we do to each other, and excruciating beauty, noticed and unnoticed. We make set-less, prop-less physical theatre to offer the pleasure of being touched, the joy of our magnificent bodies, the discomfort of change, and the pain of being human in this world. Our physical story-telling combines acrobatics with dance with Lecoq with live music with absurd miming to pull people out of the loneliness that their individual grief puts them in and find solace in the fact that suffering is universal, alive and felt by many. Ultimately, we congregate around a campfire and tell ghost stories.
