“Young Frankenstein” is a monstrously funny musical based on the beloved 1974 film by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein — an awkward American neurosurgeon and reluctant heir to his infamous grandfather’s castle in Transylvania — and his creature come to vibrant life on stage like never before. This defiantly silly comedy begins with a musical number about the brain and devolves into a triumph of the id over the superego, deliriously liberating love, lust, and the “monster” contained within us all. From iconic musical numbers like “Roll in the Hay” and “Puttin’ On the Ritz” to Igor’s classic gags (“What hump?”), this irreverent homage to the golden age of horror movies serves up laugh after laugh while celebrating the joys of friendship, authenticity, and belonging.
