On May 23, the Crest Theatre in Delray Beach, Florida was proud to present the sixth appearance of Jim Caruso's Cast Party with Billy Stritch at the piano. Check out photos from the evening below!
Host Caruso says, "Billy and I have been thrilled at the turnout of extraordinary musical talent that has taken part during these magical nights. The level of talent has been off-the-charts, and we look forward to many, many more nights of great entertainment in Delray Beach." Caruso, Stritch and the Crest crowd were dazzled by fourteen first-rate performers, from 14 year-old Ava Faith, who belted a swinging "Pick Yourself Up," Emerson College student Jacen Ziev, who sang "Extraordinary" from Pippin, Broadway veteran Avery Sommers, who stopped the show with a soulful performance of "Stormy Monday," and Rich and Jill Switzer, the hosts of The Morning Showon Legends 100.3FM Radio, who joined Caruso, Stritch and bassist Paul Shewchuk on a swinging grand finale.
Jim Caruso's Cast Party, hosted by Caruso and musical director Billy Stritch, celebrates local musical and variety talent. Cast Party is a wildly popular variety show that has been bringing a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night for the past fifteen years. It's a cool cabaret night-out and a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle. The buoyant, sharp and charming Caruso guides the entire affair like an uber-fan, musical genius Billy Stritch holds court at the ivories, and the audience is invited to participate in the festivities! Recently Caruso and Stritch have taken the Party on the road, celebrating talent in London, San Francisco, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Dallas, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Austin, and on the high seas. Cast Party was also part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Songbook Series, celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood with an all-star cast. Over the years, Caruso's Cast Party audiences in New York and on the road have been entertained by the likes of Liza Minnelli, Natalie Cole, Martin Short, Carol Channing, Hugh Jackman, Donny Osmond, Chita Rivera, Michael Feinstein, Shirley Bassey, Jon Bon Jovi, Tony Bennett, Paul Shaffer, Ricki Lake, Melissa Manchester, Larry Gatlin and Dame Edna!
Caruso recently appeared on Broadway with Liza Minnelli in the Tony Award-winning show, Liza's At The Palace. Stritch is currently on the road as musical director and accompanist for Tony Bennett. Together, Caruso and Stritch host Cast Party every Monday at Birdland, and perform weekly at Bemelmans at The Carlyle Hotel in NYC.
