Women of Letters is everyone's favorite literary salon! Every month, New York's best and brightest women come together on stage to celebrate the lost art of letter writing. For January, expect laughter, tears and camaraderie as host Sofija Stefanovic welcomes guests reading "a letter to my burning desire." The lineup is Lydia Lunch, Kia Corthron, Casey Legler, Jackie Sibbles Drury, Constance Shulman and Danusia Trevino. Proceeds from every Women of Letters show is donated to charity, with over $750,000 being raised globally to date. January 6th's show proceeds will be donated to Windham-Campbell.

The Talent Show, the wildly popular and hilarious variety show from writers and comedians Elna Baker and Kevin Townley, creates an entirely new event each month based on a theme. DAVID NAGLER: CARL SANDBURG'S CHICAGO POEMS

In 1916, the poet, journalist, biographer, musicologist, and orator Carl Sandburg published his collection, Chicago Poems, to great acclaim. Written in the wake of the city's industrial boom and under the specter of the Great War, Chicago Poems contains the hopes and dreams of the era, while also relaying the ideals, desires and frustrations ingrained in everyday life. The work helped establish Sandburg as a poet of the people. To celebrate the centenary, David Nagler brings his musical adaptation of Sandburg's poetry to Joe's Pub for two consecutive nights with a ten-person ensemble including drums/percussion, piano, acoustic guitar, accordion, horns, woodwinds, and a string quintet. Carl Sandburg's Chicago Poems features sixteen of Sandburg's poems re-imagined as a song cycle. The compositions draw on a wide variety of American music: folk, jazz, rock, classical, and musical theater.

Originally commissioned as part of The Joe's Pub 2013 New York Voices series, Bridget Everett's Rock Bottom became a downtown hit when it opened to critical acclaim in 2014, and has since had several encore runs. Rock Bottom is what happens when you are too passionate to give up, and too big to fail. The ferociously talented Everett wrote the show, a chardonnay-soaked journey through the highs and lows of her life, with the Tony Award-winning songwriting duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Longtime collaborators and friends Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz and Matt Ray contributed music as well. In it, Everett shares intensely personal moments next to wildly hilarious ones, baring her heart and much more to her audiences. Rock Bottom features new original songs written with Shaiman, Wittman, Ray and Horovitz, plus favorites from Everett's monthly sold-out show with the Tender Moments.

End of Love is a collective of musicians brought together to bring to life the compositions of Jay Deegan, Irwin Menken and Jody Stephens. The project began when the latter two met in Europe, where Stephens was touring with his band Big Star and Menken was on the road with Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth. A year later they joined forces and added New York City based guitarist Deegan. The music reflects their love of straight up Big Star-influenced pop songs, the alt- country feel of bands like Uncle Tupelo and add the art rock/noise elements practiced by Sonic Youth and others. Their new album Ghosts on the Radio (December 2015) incorporates all of these elements and draws upon friendships with and admiration for the talented group of musicians who joined them in making this record.

The Rhythm Method joyfully returns with a program full of jump cuts, mood swings and wild shifts of character: from John Zorn's collage classic Cat o' Nine Tails, to Anton Webern's spare and skittish Five Movements for String Quartet Op. 5; from violinist Marina Kifferstein's introspectively virtuosic new duet Toglicht to singing cellist Meaghan Burke's post-cabaret songs. The "uncompromising and unreserved...rhythmic, raucous...and sensuously gestural" string quartet seeks out hidden connections between highbrow and lowbrow, hysteria and humor, grace and grit, throwing the classical concert format to the wind as they navigate this sea of musical mood swings." Performers include: Kifferstein and Lavina Pavlish (violins), Hannah Levinson (viola) and Burke (cello/voice).

Comprised of a series of fast-paced vignettes, pomme is french for apple features a dizzying cast of charming and outlandish characters, in settings as diverse as the Caribbean, downtown Toronto, southeast London, and the too-tight crotch of the pants. pomme (sounds like...) is a fresh, funny and irreverent look at womanhood in all its glory: its perils, its pleasures and all kinda madness in between.

The Under the Radar + Joe's Pub series highlights the multidisciplinary music/theater hybrids that emerge from this renowned venue's programming. Inspired by the work of the playwright, novelist and essayist James Baldwin, Tony Award (Passing Strange) and Obie Award-winning playwright/singer-songwriter Stew creates a collage of songs, text and video inspired by Baldwin's brave and visionary proclivity for airing uncomfortable truths as celebratory events of poetry and beauty. Working with his longtime collaborator Heidi Rodewald, Stew has created a "concert novel" exploring the darker and more complicated aspects of Baldwin's live and work even as it celebrates his lasting influence. Notes of a Native Song premiered earlier this year at Harlem Stage as one of the culminating events in the Year of James Baldwin, a 14-month cultural festival marking the 90th anniversary of Baldwin's birth.

'L'ó dá fún Bàtá' CD Release party: Come for a night of spiritually transcendent music in the deepest of Afro-Cuban musical traditions. The evening will feature percussionists' Roman Diaz, Pedrito Martinez and Clemente Medina, as well as the Yoruba Choir featuring Amma McKenn, Denise Ola DeJean, Amma Oloriwa and Tima Baker.

In a queer apocalypse where assimilation and white supremacy reign supreme, DarkMatter imagines alternatives. This South Asian transgender spoken word duo speaks from beyond the gender binary in an explosion of queer rage, nursery rhymes and unforgettable Instagram-able fashions. #ItGetsBitter is their latest collage of camp, critique and fluorescent lipstick created in collaboration with stage director Charlotte Brathwaite. DarkMatter is comprised of Alok Vaid-Menon and Janani Balasubramanian. DarkMatter regularly performs to sold-out houses at venues such as La MaMa Experimental Theater, Nuyorican Poets Café, and the Brooklyn Museum, and was a member of The Public Theater's Devised Theater Working Group and presented in UTR's INCOMING! Renowned blues and soul singer Martha Redbone - with her all-star band - explores her Appalachian family's history in an epic that spans generations and a breadth of music genres, revealing a great American story that has remained untold until now. Vox Sambou comes from Limbé, Haiti. He writes and performs traditional rhythms of Haiti mixed with elements of Afrobeat, reggae and hip-hop in Creole, French, English, Spanish and Portuguese. He is a founding member of Montreal-based hip-hop collective, Nomadic Massive, with whom he has performed across Canada as well as in the USA. Vox Sambou ranks among the most enlighten of the world 2.0(La Presse). He won Stingray Rising Stars 2014 Award at Mundial Montreal. In Feb 2015 he performed at Womad Chile, Brazil in 2014, Sénégal, Mali and Burkina Faso in 2011. A stunningly sweet singer with a uniquely expressive voice, Kat Edmonson's music has a timeless sound. In a few short years, she has gone from small rooms in her native Texas to concert halls and festivals, playing dates with Gary Clark Jr., Lyle Lovett, Michael Kiwanuka and Chris Isaak. Her 2009 debut, Take to the Sky, featured creative interpretations of standards and pop hits while her 2012 follow-up, Way Down Low, was called "one of the greatest vocal albums I've ever heard" by The Boston Globe. The album earned her universal critical acclaim, and the attention of Sony Music Masterworks, which released The Big Picture (2015). Edmonson draws from a wellspring of '50s and '60s pop, '70s AM radio, present-day pop-rock and movie soundtracks for The Big Picture.
Born and raised in Europe, and currently in New York City, Alissia Benveniste serves as the "future face of funk music" (Huffington Post). As a bass player, bandleader, and songwriter, she has garnered millions of views online and has caught the attention of many industry artists and musicians, playing with the likes of Q-Tip, Louis Cato (Marcus Miller, George Duke) and John Blackwell. She is also the leader of Alissia & The Funketeers, her 14-piece funk project. Her debut EP, entitled "Back to the Funkture" features many special guests and is due to an early 2016 release.
