Deadline reports that Sharon Gless has signed on as a series regular in the upcoming ABC comedy pilot SAINT FRANCES.

The multi-camera pilot will follow Francis Quinlan (Michael Imperioli), "a no-nonsense, blue-collar Long Island cop and family man who butts heads with the modern, liberal world when his 29-year-old sister Heather (Spencer Grammer) gets pregnant out of wedlock."

Gless will take on the role of Francis' mother Janice Quinlan, described as "an Irish Catholic "widow/martyr" who has taken up permanent residence in Francis' basement. When she learns that Heather is pregnant, she rushes off to her parish priest, who is happy to confirm the fact that Janice's only daughter is going straight to hell."

Gless was most recently seen on TV for seven seasons on USA's Burn Notice. Her other TV credits include Queer As Folk, Nip/Tuck, The Trials Of Rosie O'Neill and BBC telefilm The State Within. The actress is best known for her role on Cagney & Lacey for which she won an Emmy and Golden Globe Award.
