The Environmental Media Association (EMA) will honor actress and activist Shailene Woodley with the Female EMA Futures Award at the 26th Annual EMA Awards on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Warner Bros. studios in Burbank, Calif., presented by Toyota & Lexus and Calvert Investments, EMA announced today.

"Shailene is the real deal. As an influencer and activist, she has used her celebrity status to motivate and activate her fans and supporters to take action in their own lives," said Debbie Levin, CEO of EMA. "A strong proponent of climate change and individual responsibility, we couldn't be more proud to honor and share this young woman's authentic commitment and "boots on the ground" rallying for social and environmental justice issues. With her voice that echoes and carries an empowering message, she encourages us all to engage ourselves in causes that matter most. She is clearly one of our most powerful future leaders in the environmental community."

Woodley has had major success as an actress both on television and in film starting with her featured role on Secret Life of the American Teenager. In 2012 Woodley received a Golden Globe Award nomination for her supporting role in The Descendants. Woodley went on to work on films such as The Spectacular Now, The Fault in Our Stars and The Divergent Series and currently co-stars in the film Snowden. She just wrapped the HBO mini-series Big Little Lies which will premiere early next year. Woodley, who has demonstrated her strong opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline and has actively protested in person on social media, has used her status and platform to influence, educate and motivate young individuals to stand up and have their voice be heard. Woodley has become THE VOICE of her generation and a fighter for the environment.

"Our lives afford us the opportunity to come together and get involved in a peaceful and unifying manner," said Woodley. "We must show up to see change come to fruition. We must stand in solidarity and acknowledge our responsibility for not only those alive now, but for all generations to come. Protecting our Earth and its creatures is protecting humanity and its children. This EMA Futures Award shows me that there are millions of us who have been and ARE ready to stand up in the face of adversity and honor the home that has offered us the lives we know. Without nature, there is no human."

Along with news of Woodley's Award, EMA also announced the list of this year's film and television EMA Awards nominees.
