According to Deadline, at the San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, True Blood castmember Kristin Bauer van Straten revealed that HBO attempted to get Sarah Palin to make a cameo in one of the episodes; however, she turned down the offer. The episode aired on July 20 and included several digs at the Republican GOP as well as a bloodbath at a fictional fundraiser for real-life Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Palin stated, "The brilliant minds of True Blood were brazen enough to ask me to do a cameo on their show, apparently so they could insult a conservative woman in person instead of just all conservative women in general. Their offer wasn't presented in any negative way, perhaps to benefit from a surprise factor after the guest appearance. I turned them down anyway."

True Blood was created by Alan Ball, who recently left the series. Co-executive producer Brian Buckner has taken over as showrunner for the series based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; executive producer Gregg Fienberg; co-executive producers, Buckner, Alexander Woo, Raelle Tucker, Mark Hudis andAngela Robinson; co-producers, Christina Jokanovich, Marlis Pujol and David Auge.

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood takes place in a world where vampires and humans co-exist, after vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source.
