As The Hollywood Reported announced this afternoon, Rose Byrne (BRIDESMAIDS, DAMAGES), Hugo Weaving (THE MATRIX), and Miranda Otto (THE LORD OF THE RINGS) have officially inked deals to join the extensive cast for the upcoming Australia epic, THE TURNING.

The film is based upon Tim Winton's sprawling collection of short stories and is comprised of 17 of them, which extend across three decades. Each story focuses on a critical 'turning point' in the lives of the characters, with plot threads and themes connecting each different tale.

Cate Blanchett, Mia Wasikowska, and David Wenham are also set to star in and direct a different segment. Other directors taking on separate segments include Benedict Andrews, Jonathan auf der Heide, Tony Ayres, Claire McCarthy, and Stephen Page.

No release date has yet been set for THE TURNING.
