Deadline reports that the Ridley Scott-produced series CRIMES OF THE CENTURY will soon begin airing on CNN on weekends later this year. Each episode of the non-fiction series will take an in depth look at major news stories, including such memorable historical events as the Madoff Scandal and the Oklahoma City bombing.

The show incorporates a "cinematic approach" in the fashion of a Ridley Scott production. The episodes will feature both CGI and animation, and will make viewers feel as if they were present at the scene of the crime. The series will also feature never-before-scene-footage and interviews with witnesses, victims, and investigators of crimes.

Scott will executive produce along with David Zucker and Mary Lisio of Scott Free Productions. Vinnie Malhotra, SVP of development and acquisitions for CNN Worldwide called the acquisition "another step in our mission to broaden the scope of programming on CNN," and referred to Crimes Of The Century as "an expertly-produced, captivating series that delves deeply into some of the most fascinating news events of our day that demand further scrutiny."

Crimes of the Century will join other CNN non-fiction series, including Anthony Bourdain' Parts Unknown and Morgan Spurlock's Inside Man.
