Digital entertainment curator FilmBuff announced today, in advance of its North American Premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, that they will release the internationally acclaimed documentary, Red Obsession. Directed by Warwick Ross and David Roach and narrated by Oscar-winner, Russell Crowe, the film follows the history, triumphs and global economic complexities of the holy grail of fine wines, Bordeaux.
For centuries, Bordeaux has commanded a mythical status in the world of fine wine as a motif of wealth, power and influence, but its prosperity has always been linked to the fickle nature of the financial markets, shifting fortunes and the sensitive growing conditions of the grapes. Now change is coming to Bordeaux; with traditional customers like the US and the UK falling away, the growing thirst of China's nouveau riche is fueling the bidding wars at a time when prices are at an all-time high. The demand is unprecedented, but the product is finite and this new client wants it all. Whether the Chinese market will be the bubble that never bursts or the biggest threat yet to Bordeaux's centuries-old reputation is the main subject in this fascinating study of how the obsession in Shanghai affects some of the most illustrious vineyards in France.Videos
