Photo Coverage: 'The Cronenberg Project' TIFF Photo Call

Produced in partnership with The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA), David Cronenberg: Transformationis the visual art component of TIFF's multi-faceted 2013 endeavour, The Cronenberg Project. Curators David Liss and Noah Cowan invited six artists with clear affinities for Cronenberg's films to respond to a specific theme in his work: the yearning to witness the next stage of human evolution. Providing a cross-section of Cronenberg's enormous impact on visual arts language, these six works form the core of Future Projections this year, exemplifying the programme's commitment to explore the rapidly expanding field of media art informed by the history, culture, and aesthetics of cinema

The Toronto International Film Festival is a publicly attended film festival held each September in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2012, 372 films from 72 countries were screened at 34 screens in downtown Toronto venues, welcoming an estimated 400,000 attendees, over 4000 of whom were industry professionals. The Festival traditionally kicks off the Thursday night after Labour Day (the first Monday in September in Canada), lasting for eleven days.

Founded in 1976, the Festival is now one of the most prestigious events of its kind in the world. In 1998, Variety magazine acknowledged that "the Festival is second only to Cannes in terms of high-profile pics, stars and market activity." In 2007, Time noted that the Festival had "grown from its place as the most influential fall film festival to the most influential film festival, period." This is partially the result of the Festival's reputation and ability to generate "Oscar buzz".
