Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, et al. Win Spirit Awards

The 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards were held in Santa Monica yesterday. The event was hosted by actor Seth Rogen

According to published reports, Michelle Williams took home an award for Best Female Lead for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in 'My Week with Marilyn.' Christopher Plummer won the award for Best Supporting Male for his role in 'The Beginners.'

'The Artist' was a big winner of the night, winning the award for Best Feature. The film's director Michel Hazanavicius took home the award for Best Director. Guillaume Schiffman won the award for Best Cinematography and Jean Dujardin, who starred in the film, won the award for Best Male Lead.

'The Descendants' was also honored at the event. Writers Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, and Jim Rash won for Best Screenplay and Shailene Woodley took home the award for Best Supporting Female.

Other winners included Will Reiser for Best First Screenplay for '50/50' and 'Margin Call' for Best First Feature.
