Julianne Moore and Colin Firth are confirmed to star in "A Single Man," which will mark former fashion icon Tom Ford's directorial debut. Based on Christopher Isherwood's novel of the same title, the film is set for release later this year by The Weinstein Co for Oscar consideration, with a wide release scheduled for 2010, according to Variety.

The film is set in the 1960s and focuses on a gay man trying to adjust to life without his partner.

Firth starred in the film version of Mamma Mia! and is best known for such movies as Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones' Diary. Moore has appeared on stage in The Vertical Hour and Vanya on 42nd Street; she received Oscar nominations for Far From Heaven, The Hours, The End of the Affair, and Boogie Nights.
