James Spader to Star Opposite Meryl Streep & Tommy Lee Jones in THE HOMESMAN

Tommy Lee Jones is bent on signing an all-star cast for his upcoming period film THE HOMESMAN.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Spader is the latest actor to join the movie, which Jones will direct, write, produce, and star in. Spader also joins Meryl Streep, her daughter Grace Gummer, Hilary Swank, Miranda Otto, and Tim Blake Nelson.

THE HOMESMAN follows the story of a pioneer woman and a claim-jumping rascal of a man (Jones) who usher three insane women on an odyssey from Nebraska to Iowa, braving the elements along the way.

Spader's role is under wraps for now, though the publican confirm's he'll play some sort of swindler.

Jones will produce the film through The Javelina Film Company along with Michael Fitzgerald's Ithaca Films.

Spader's credits include: Steven Soderbergh's "sex, lies and videotape," which won him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival; David Croenenberg's "Crash," which won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes; and Steven Shainberg's "Secretary," which won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Feature. His other film credits include "2 Days in the Valley," "Wolf," and "Less Than Zero." Spader also appeared Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks feature "Lincoln."

From 2004-08, Spader won three Emmy awards for his seminal role as shameless attorney Alan Shore in "The Practice" and "Boston Legal," making him the only actor to win consecutive Emmys playing the same character on two different series. Spader starred as a lead character in Race, a play written and directed by David Mamet, alongside Richard Thomas, David Alan Grier and Kerry Washington in 2009. He also recently wrapped a one-season stint on NBC's "The Office." It was also recently announced that Spader has signed on to star in NBC's upcoming spy series "The Blacklist."
