After years of close calls, Bryan Voltaggio claimed the ultimate victory on the finale of Tournament of Champions VII, securing the belt and a $150,000 cash prize by a one-point margin.

This season featured 32 of some of the world’s most accomplished chefs, including four culinary icons who battled through a single-elimination, bracket-style tournament. “This win means everything to me,” said Voltaggio. “I’ve worked incredibly hard, learned from every loss and pushed myself further each season. To finally take the belt is beyond gratifying.”

Last night, Chef Kevin Lee, who enjoyed a meteoric rise to the finale after having twice reached the TOC quarterfinals and the semi-finals of Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas went head-to-head with the TOC All-Star Christmas co-champion, Bryan Voltaggio.

Voltaggio had previously suffered first-round losses in TOC II and III. With the randomizer raised to—as host Guy Fieri described—an “extreme” level of difficulty, the battle had to include live Alaskan King Crabs, fresh water chestnuts, use a pressure cooker, include two dishes featuring breakfast and dinner, and the final twist:  a secret envelope revealed that both dishes had to be “sticky.”

After an hour of cooking, the competitors watched as TOC champions Mei Lin and Brooke Williamson, chef Cat Cora, and surprise judge and six-time James Beard Award winner David Chang evaluated their final dishes of the tournament.

When it came down to announce the winner, Guy revealed that Bryan’s breakfast of King Crab and grits with diced water chestnuts, crab fat caramel, and whipped maple syrup with Sorghum and Masago Arare Tempura of Crab Leg with Water Chestnut Cream Sauce dinner pushed Bryan’s score high enough to claim the TOC Champion title, the belt, and the $150,000 prize.

Tournament of Champions VII was produced by Knuckle Sandwich and Lando Entertainment for Food Network.
