Presenting a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver continues with a new edition TONIGHT, MAY 18 (11:05-11:35 p.m. ET/PT), followed by other weekly shows debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time on HBO. This week's show will include an interview with journalist Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN's "Fareed Zakaria GPS."
Other HBO playdates: May 18 (1:35 a.m.), 19 (8:30 p.m., 3:35 a.m.), 20 (9:00 p.m.), 21 (12:15 a.m.) and 22 (6:30 p.m.) HBO2 playdates: May 19 (7:30 p.m.), 20 (9:30 p.m.), 23 (8:30 p.m.), 24 (12:05 a.m.), 25 (6:30 p.m.) and 31 (11:30 p.m.) LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts on HBO, each edition of the show features a mix of Oliver's topical commentary on the previous week's events, pre-taped pieces and an interview. According to a recent GQ article, Oliver excels at making "blackhearted satirical cracks, whistling through the studio air like ninja stars," while TIME magazine has written that Oliver reports the news "with all of the bemused incredulousness it deserves." The Washington Post observed that "the Oliver twist on the news...could vault 'Last Week' to the top of the crowded ranks of TV shows making merry at the expense of the news and the news media."
