Tonight, NBC takes another stab at its 2006 fan favorite science fiction show HEROES with a new, spinoff series, aptly named HEROES REBORN. This time around, we'll be introduced to a whole new set of extraordinary people with a whole new set of extraordinary abilities (in other words, you shoudl be fine if you've never seen a single episode from the original series). Don't worry, though - a few original favorites are bound to make appearances here and there!

There's been a lot of hype around the reboot, including a fair amount of skepticism (from myself included). Can it live up to the first few seasons of the original series? Will it take the same turn as the original HEROES? We'll have to watch to find out!

That being said, I'm excited (albeit, somewhat cautiously) for this new incarnation! NBC's six episode web prequel DARK MATTERS was pretty darn captivating, and I'm hoping that the actual show will follow the same trajectory. Also, Zachary Levi is in this. Who doesn't love Zachary Levi?!

Join me right here and on Twitter @CourtHenley tonight at 8 PM PST as I live recap the West Coastseason premiere of HEROES REBORN! I may not have any superhuman abilities, but I do have a lot of opinions, so it'll be plenty entertaining!

8:01: Evos and Humans United! I like it! Everyone's living happily in good ol' Odessa, TX. Almost too good...

8:02: I knew it! There it goes. Explosion time.

8:06: Alright, now we've set the stage: unexplained explosions in Texas, chase scenes in Quebec, frozen tundras in China, and now a family on the run trying to get to Canada. Seems that whole "evos and humans united" thing has disappeared pretty quickly.

8:11: Gonna be honest, I was not expecting a mole in the support group! And yet, there he is! Pretty sure this is the first time I've seen Zachary Levi in a more serious, dramatic role. I love it.

8:15: This poor kid. First, he's wanted in 3 states. Next, he can't even fight off the school bully. Then, he finds out he narrowly missed a gunfight and a building fire. Then, we find out he's one of the suspects! Give the kid a break!

Also, I don't trust this guy with the hat. His little lapel flower screams "psychopath."

8:25: Just as I was about to say, "I like that girl. She seems nice!," that text comes through saying, "Don't trust anyone." Typical.

I feel like this would would just be a happier place if everybody just got along! But then again, I guess there wouldn't be a TV show if everybody just got along...

HA! This bearded guy really needs to practice more before he starts trying to stalk people. That being said, this guy's probably onto something. Conspiracy theorists in shows like this usually are.

8:35: Is this...the whole building is the video game? Whaaa? Actually, my reaction is pretty on point with that girl's reaction. This is weird. Wonder what this has to do with the rest of the show!

Ooh, back to the States, just in time for the mysterious man in the mask to appear! He's like California's Evo Batman!

8:42: Oh, look! Oscar's the Batman! He's even got a little Evo bat cave and everything!

No! How did he die already!? Who's gonna take over?!

On another note, aw, Tommy's on a little interview! Wait...no, don't go talk to them! You're walking into their trap...that they didn't know they set...

OOH! Tommy's power might be my favorite: making people disappear on the spot. I feel like that could be useful in real life.

8:52: Wait, remember when I said Tommy's power was the coolest? I lied. I like Jose's, too. You can walk through anything!

In other news, it seems like people really like pulling guns out on strangers. Come on, people, really, do we have to be so quick with the guns?

8:55: Shout out to whoever did the production design for this location. The house and the costuming are perfect - it really does seem like a real-life video game!

Oh wait. Now it is a video game. Cool!

8:57: Wait, what?! Who is this doctor? Why does he want to kill the glasses guy? (Also, forgive my vague descriptions of characters, it seems their names change so quickly.)

Oh. You told him to kill you.

No, Rene, don't die! What's coming?! Tell us, Rene!

9:00: We're entering the second hour of the show and I desperately want Noah to remember what he needed to forget!

OOH, interesting! We get to see where things go when Tommy makes them disappear! Things are getting tense in there, though, between Luke and Joanne. I'm curious about their history.

But first, back to video game land! Ren's unlocked Katana Girl after all!

9:11: Great, funny hat lapel flower guy is back! He's never good news. Run, Tommy, run!

HA, this is great. He brought Tommy to make his abusive step-father disappear. I'd be just like Tommy, though. No way would I be able to do that.

Interesting to hear about the reasoning behind the conspiarcy theories.

9:22: Before I mention the funny hat lapel flower guy once again, I feel I need to call something out: really, NBC? We blatantly advertise for our own show on another one of our shows? That's what we do now?

9:25: Doesn't this guy realize he shouldn't trust random girls he picks up in a casino, especially when you're scamming the casino?

9:33: I do love a good trespasser. And this conspiracy theorist is growing on me, too.

Also, that's my dream: to have a secret room behind a bookshelf. If anybody knows of anybody who can hook me up with one, please pass on my info. Thank you!

But wait...Claire wasn't at the Summit...? Does that mean that she's still alive?

Aw, I like Quentin. He's a good guy. He just wants to help his sister. Noah, I'm not so sure about yet. I feel like he's a good guy, but right now, he has too many secrets and uncovered memories to earn my trust. Sure, they made a deal to be honest with each other, but I'm still skeptical.

Meanwhile, Luke and Joanne look for a light switch. Wait, please don't make the room go dark. Creepy things always happen in the dark.

9:40: This "Penny for your thoughts" guy intrigues me. I want to know more about him. Starting with, what exactly does that darn penny do?!

9:45: What?! The priest can turn into a ghost?! Let's add Carlos and this priest to the list of people who intrigue me.

9:47: Alright, things go to wherever you're thinking about when you touch them, Tommy! That's pretty cool! I still want to trust Emily, but I'm not sure that I am. She seems too good to be true to be honest.

Ooh, worlds are starting to converge! Noah and Quentin are leaving the building that Luke and Joanne ended up in after Tommy zapped them away! I love it when different worlds start to come together.

9:56: Molly Walker should be a bit more careful.

9:58: Katana Girl is AWESOME!

And just like that, the two hour series premiere is over. I'm intrigued. Still a bit skeptical, but intrigued. All in all, it was an interesting premiere! Sure, there were a ton of different storylines, but they were clearly defined and easy to follow. Kudos, NBC, so far, so good!
