BRIDESMAIDS' Wendi McLendon-Covey has officially landed the lead role in Adam Goldberg's upcoming 1980s comedy pilot for ABC.

The project, which is inspired by Goldberg's own life, follows a messed up, but equally loving family. McLendon-Covey will play the matriarch of the family, Beverly Gold, a hyper-emotional shopaholic with no sense of boundaries and a big mouth.

The pilot was picked up last month by ABC after it was originally ordered by Fox.

Earlier this year, McLendon-Covey was cast in KING OF VAN NUYS, the adaptation of the BBC's ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES, commissioned by ABC. Ultimately, the network passed on the project in December.

The actress is also set to return to Modern Family and CBS' RULES OF ENGAGEMENT later this season.
