ABC's WORLD NEWS Wins 2nd Quarter in Total Viewers for First Time In 8 Years

"ABC World News with David Muir" won the 2nd Quarter 2015 in all key target demos: Total Viewers (7.853 million), Adults 25-54 (1.902 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.307 million), based on Most Current Data from Nielsen Media Research. "World News Tonight's" performance represented the 3rd time in the last four quarters to win in Adults 25-54, while marking its first Total Viewer and Adults 18-49 victory during any quarter in nearly 8 years - since 3Q07. Further, the ABC evening news program's victory represented its first win during a 2nd quarter in any of the key measures in 8 years - since 2Q07.

"World News Tonight" outdelivered "NBC Nightly News" (7.810 million, 1.829 million and 1.294 million) during 2Q15 by 43,000 Total Viewers, by 73,000 Adults 25-54 and by 13,000 Adults 18-49. In fact, "World News Tonight" saw its largest news demo quarter lead in nearly 8 years - since 3Q07, respectively.

"World News Tonight" improved on the same quarter last year (7.347 million for 2Q14) in Total Viewers (+7%) to post its most-watched 2nd quarter in 8 years - since 2Q07. In fact, "World News Tonight" saw year-to-year gains in 12 of the 13 weeks of the quarter. In addition, the ABC evening newscast turned in the most quarter growth from 2Q14 in overall viewers compared to "CBS Evening News" (+6%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-6%).

For the 2nd quarter, "World News Tonight" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by its largest 2nd quarter margins in 3 years in Total Viewers (+1.178 million) and in 6 years in Adults 25-54 (+414,000) - since 2Q12 and 2Q09, respectively.

Week of June 22, 2015:

ABC News' "World News Tonight with David Muir" average 7.722 million Total Viewers, 1.933 million Adults 25-54 and 1.327 million Adults 18-49 for the week of June 22, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

For the 3rd time in the last 4 weeks, "World News Tonight" built on the year-ago week (7.172 million, 1.819 million and 1.232 million, respectively, on w/o 6/23/14) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+8%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%).

"World News Tonight" narrowed its year-to-year margins with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits in all key target demos: Total Viewers (-58% - 326,000 vs. 785,000), Adults 25-54 (-63% - 37,000 vs. 99,000) and Adults 18-49 (-38% - 105,000 vs. 169,000).

Season to date, ABC News' "World News Tonight" stands as the No. 1 evening newscast in Adults 25-54, leading "NBC Nightly News" by 4,000 news demo viewers (2.103 million vs. 2.099 million). In addition, "World News Tonight" is leading the NBC newscast by its largest news demo margin in 19 years - since the 1995-96 season.

"World News Tonight" is averaging 504,000 more viewers, season to date, compared to the same time frame last season (8.497 million vs. 7.993 million), while "NBC Nightly News" is posting a 303,000 average loss (8.832 million vs. 9.135 million). For the 2nd year in a row, "World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+1%). "World News Tonight" is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 4 years - since the 2006-07 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. In addition, "World News Tonight" is improving the most in Total Viewers and standing as the only evening newscast to grow in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+3%/-2%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-3%/-8%).

"World News Tonight" cut its season gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by more than half in Total Viewers (-71% - 335,000 vs. 1.142 million) and Adults 18-49 (-66% - 83,000 vs. 247,000) to its closest performance in 7 years in Total Viewers and in 8 years in Adults 18-49 - since the 2007-08 and the 2006-07 seasons, respectively.

For the week, "World News Tonight" led the "CBS Evening News" by 1.114 million Total Viewers, by 460,000 Adults 25-54 and by 292,000 Adults 18-49.
